The Mission Behind Every Order

When you order from The Honor Union, your purchase directly funds a verified 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has been training and placing service dogs with veterans since 2009.

Not "a portion of proceeds." Not "a percentage of profits after costs." Your order funds real training hours, every time. That's the math.

What VMF Does

Veterans Moving Forward trains service dogs for veterans carrying physical and invisible wounds from their service — PTSD, TBI, mobility challenges, chronic pain. They serve veterans of every generation, from Vietnam to post-9/11.

Training begins when a dog is 8 weeks old and continues until placement at 18 to 24 months. By the time a VMF dog meets its veteran, it has been trained to perform specific, disability-related tasks: nightmare interruption, anxiety detection, medication retrieval, mobility assistance, and 24/7 support.

VMF provides this service at zero cost to the veteran or their family.

The Research Behind It

A 2024 NIH-funded study published in JAMA Network Open — the largest of its kind — found that veterans paired with trained service dogs had 66% lower odds of a PTSD diagnosis after just three months. 31% no longer met the criteria for PTSD at all.

Treatment dropout for traditional trauma therapy runs at 27%. For service dog programs: 10%.

Multiple veterans in the study said their service dog may have prevented them from dying by suicide.

This is what the training hours buy.

The Gap

Over 1.45 million veterans have PTSD as a service-connected disability. The entire service dog industry places approximately 400 to 600 dogs per year.

The need is not being met. VMF is one of the organizations working to change that. Every order from The Honor Union moves that work forward — one training hour at a time.
