Woody — Mobility and PTSD Task Work
Service dogs trained by VMF do not just provide comfort. They perform real, physical tasks that change what a veteran can do each day.
Woody is being trained to aid his veteran with mobility assistance and PTSD task work. The video below shows what that training looks like — precise, patient, and purposeful.
"Woody aids his veteran by providing mobility and PTSD task work."
VMF Training Team · Veterans Moving ForwardMary Is Learning to Surf
When Veterans Moving Forward pairs a service dog with a veteran, they do not just match on skill. They match on personality and lifestyle.
Mary's veteran is active. He loves to surf. So VMF is training Mary to surf alongside him.
This month Mary began surf training — starting on dry land, learning the board before she ever touches the water. It sounds unusual. But this is exactly what makes VMF's approach different. The dog is not just trained to follow commands. She is trained to live the veteran's life with him.
The next step was getting Mary comfortable on a moving surfboard, because every environment her veteran enters, his service dog enters with him.
"Veterans Moving Forward ensures that canines and Veterans are matched not only in skill set, but also personality and lifestyle. Mary's Veteran is very active and loves to surf. Practicing surfing on dry land is a crucial step in getting Mary comfortable on the surf board."
VMF Training Team · Veterans Moving ForwardClay and Stan — Brothers in the Mission
Clay was placed with his veteran in 2023. Stan is still in training. They are full brothers from different litters.
This month, VMF's Director of Programs and Training traveled to Pennsylvania to support an event with Clay's veteran — and brought Stan along. Two brothers. One already serving. One still preparing. Both at the same event.
Clay's veteran has had his service dog for two years. He still shows up to support the program that changed his life. That is what this mission produces — not just a dog, but a lasting partnership.
"Full brothers from different litters! Clay was placed with his Veteran in 2023 and Stan is still in training. Our Director of Programs and Training and one of our long-time volunteers went to PA to support an event with Clay's Veteran with Stan."
